TOWNHOUSE

The Architect´s House, is a typical bourgeois house representative of Porto from the beginning of the 20th century, located on Rua da Restauração.

It was built in 1905, with a project approved by the architect Marques da Silva, in a place where there had previously been a building with three large rooms that housed an important collection of paintings, weapons, medals and ceramics belonging to John Allen.

In this house, in 1950, the family nucleus of the prestigious architect Eduardo Souto Moura (Pritzker Prize in 2011) was established, who spent his childhood, youth and part of his adult life there, continuing to visit regularly.

The Architect was invited to rehabilitate the house where he lived, developing an exemplary project – reconciling tradition and contemporaneity – of a property with many memories and representative of the urban and architectural identity of the city of Porto.

The recent intervention was distinguished in 2021 with the João de Almada Prize, the highest award for rehabilitation works in the city of Porto.
